Charles Beale

Sing Love

for SABar and piano

With words by the composer, Sing Love is a groovy, feel-good gospel number that encourages love for all mankind. The infectious melodies are well supported by a funky piano part and optional bass part (included at the back of the leaflet). Originally published in Popular Voiceworks 2.

Born in London and now based in New York, Charles Beale has enjoyed a varied career as a jazz educator, pianist, composer-arranger, and choral director. His playing and arranging work includes credits on albums and singles by pop and dance artists including Whitney Houston and Adeva. He became Music Director of the New York City Gay Men’s Chorus in 2007.

Andy Brooke

Haul away Joe

for CCBar & piano – but can be sang at any octave.
This arrangement of the popular sea-shanty ‘Haul away’ provides enjoyment and learning opportunities through call-and-response, opportunities for solos, amusing (and historical) lyrics, and an appealing, catchy chorus. A footnote makes further suggestions for choreography and how to inject the drama of the open seas. Andy Brooke is a composer, arranger and school teacher. Andy’s passion for choral composition stems from his belief that something magical happens when we sing together, and that we should all have opportunities to sing in our lives.

Steve Milloy

Joyful, joyful

for SABar and piano, with opt. bass and drum kit

This is an arrangement of Beethoven’s ‘Ode to Joy’ with an English text by Henry van Dyke. It was originally published in Pop Voiceworks 2, but amended to be part of the new Three-part repertoire series.

Steve Milloy coaches and directs singers in schools, churches, theatres, and concert stages across the Midwestern US. A former member of the acclaimed a cappella octet Pieces of 8, he has sung in popular styles in theme parks and on TV and radio, and has composed or arranged pieces for more than a dozen GALA choruses in the US and UK.

Sarah Cattley

Ballade of True Wisdom

Commissioned for a celebration on the Isle of Arran, this piece sets a poem by Andrew Lang. It argues that all one really needs to be happy is ‘a house full of books, and a garden of flowers’. Written in 2019 to be premiered by a scratch choir, this piece is relatively straightforward with lots of unison and repetition. It would be suitable for a community choir or as an encore.
