International award-winning New Dublin Voices is a leading Irish chamber choir. Founded by conductor Bernie Sherlock in 2005, from the start NDV has presented concert programmes that are fresh, innovative, and exciting, ranging widely in style and period from the medieval to the contemporary. The choir takes special pleasure in exploring the music of living composers and has given numerous Irish and world premieres.
International award-winning New Dublin Voices was founded by conductor Bernie Sherlock in 2005. Within concert programmes that are fresh, innovative, and exciting, New Dublin Voices has given more than 50 world premieres and takes special pleasure in exploring the music of living composers. The choir leads the way in performing, premiering, commissioning and disseminating Irish choral music, and in introducing international choral music to Irish audiences.
New Dublin Voices has won prizes at major competitions in France, Hungary, Germany, Finland, Belgium, Spain, England, Slovenia, Latvia and Italy. Most recently the choir won First Prize for mixed choirs at the 2018 Béla Bartók International Choral Competition in Hungary, and the overall Grand Prix at the 2017 International Baltic Sea Choral Competition in Latvia. Previous awards include First Prize at the 2015 Cork International Choral Festival, the Grand Prix at the Concorso Polifonico in Arezzo, Italy in August 2013, all six prizes at the 2011 International Choir Contest of Maasmechelen, Belgium, and the Grand Prix at the Budapest International Choir Competition in 2009.
New Dublin Voices regularly tours to prestigious international festivals at home and abroad. This has seen them travel extensively in Provençe, Normandy, Burgundy and Catalonia. In July 2017 the choir was one of only 24 ensembles from around the globe – and the first ever choir from Ireland – invited to perform at the triennial World Symposium on Choral Music in Barcelona. Other festival appearances include the 9th European Festival of Youth Choirs in Basel, and the 2nd World Choral Festival in Kansas City, USA.
Bernie Sherlock is an internationally established choral conductor. She is the founder-conductor of the multi-award-winning chamber choir New Dublin Voices, critically acclaimed for its innovative concert programming and its work in television, radio and recording. The choir has won prizes at competitions in Hungary, Finland, France, Germany, Slovenia, Belgium, Italy, and Ireland. Bernie is the recipient of numerous international awards for her conducting. Her adjudication and workshop engagements bring her around Europe and to the US, Canada and China. She represents Ireland on the World Choir Council.
Bernie studied choral conducting in Hungary for two years with Peter Erdei and Ildikó Herboly Kocsár, followed by orchestral conducting with Gerhard Markson in Dublin during his tenure as principal conductor of the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra. She is a Lecturer at the DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama where she conducts the DIT Chamber Choir and DIT Youth Choir and is a specialist in aural training, musicianship and conducting.
