Paul Whittaker was born in Huddersfield in 1964. He has been profoundly deaf all his life yet studied music at Wadham College, Oxford, and at the RNCM before founding “Music and the Deaf” in 1988. He ran that charity for 27 years before leaving in 2015 to pursue a freelance career.
He has given signed theatre and concert performances since 1992, and worked with The Sixteen, at Edinburgh International and Aldeburgh Festivals and at the BBC Proms.
He was awarded an OBE for services to music in 2007 and holds honorary degrees from Huddersfield and the Open Universities.
