Em Whitfield Brooks

Em Whitfield Brooks is a director, choral leader, facilitator, voice coach and songwriter. With a background in theatre, circus and singing, she leads diverse choral and performance projects in community, corporate and education settings across the UK and internationally. Em has led her own community choirs, and workshops for all kinds of choirs, since 1990; she founded and was director of Ryedale Festival Community Opera for 14 years, and has conducted projects for Hull Freedom Chorus since it began in 2011, including major events for 2017 City of Culture. She has worked for York Theatre Royal, West Yorkshire Playhouse, Opera North, and in 2017 conducted the people’s opera Calderland at Halifax Piece Hall, produced by 509 Arts, which won the Royal Philharmonic Society Award for Learning and Participation. Em is Associate Director of The Map Consortium which offers bespoke professional development for corporate, cultural and cross-sector organisations. Her songbook for community choirs, I Wanna Make You Sing! is published by Banks Music Publications.
